American pop star Billie Eilish has announced the latest single from her forthcoming album Happier Than Ever will be released later this week.
The song, ‘NDA’, will be the fifth preview of Eilish’s second LP, which itself is set to be released on July 30. Previously, we’ve gotten look-ins at the album from the singles ‘My Future’, ‘Therefore I Am’, ‘Your Power’, and ‘Lost Cause’.
‘NDA’, like the previous singles and the entirety of Happier Than Ever plus pretty much Eilish’s entire discography, is co-written and produced by her brother Finneas. The elder O’Connell sibling has kept busy on his own this year as well, producing a duet between him and American singer-songwriter Ashe with the song ‘Till Forever Falls Apart’ and being a featured backing vocalist on Ringo Starr’s ‘Here’s to the Night’.
No offence to Finneas, but he is easily the least prominent contributor to that particular track, if only because the line-up is so stacked. Just look at this list: Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Sheryl Crow, Jenny Lewis, Lenny Kravitz, Chris Stapleton, Yola, Ben Harper, Dave Grohl, Eric Burton and Corinne Bailey Rae are all also backing vocalists on the track. That’s prestigious company on a not terribly prestigious track.
Speaking of which, did you know that Ringo Starr put out an EP in March called Zoom In? I didn’t! And hoo boy is it bad. Like just schlocky, turgid, truly horrendous pap. There’s a song written by the guys in Toto called ‘Not Enough Love in the World’. Everything from the goofy pandemic-referencing title to the old school rock and country shuffles are supremely on brand, and I honestly hope that Ringo keeps making these kinds of records because they only endear him more to me. Never change, Ringo.
What were we talking about? Billie Eilish? Oh yeah, here’s the announcement. I’m sure we’ll check back in when the song proper is released.
