With a bumper bootleg album already on route, Bob Dylan has now announced that he will also be releasing a new seven-inch single with an unreleased version of the classic ‘Blind Willie McTell’.
The track is one of many in Dylan’s back catalogue that inexplicably failed to make the final cut of an album, having been snubbed from the Infidels sessions, only to make it onto a Bootleg album and have people scratching their heads in wonderment.
The take that featured on The Bootleg Series Volumes 1 – 3 (Rare & Unreleased) 1961–1991 featured Dylan and Mark Knopfler on guitar and piano for a stripped back version.
This latest rendition, however, features Dylan, Knopfler, Mick Taylor, Sly Dunbar and Robbie Shakespeare for two separate full band recordings of the old folk tale.
For this particular release, Dylan has teamed up with Jack White’s Third Man Records, and the single will be released on August 20th; it is unrelated to the forthcoming Springtime in New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985), which is set for release on September 17th.
While the B-side to the single will be available in the Bootleg series, the A-side is unique to this exclusive single.
