Chromatics announce breakup

American electronic rock band Chromatics have announced their breakup on social media.

“After a long period of reflection, the three of us have made the difficult decision to end Chromatics,” the band say in a statement. “We would like to thank all of our fans and the friends we have made along the way – we are eternally grateful for your love and support. This has been a truly unforgettable chapter in our lives, and we couldn’t have done it without you. We are very excited for the future, and look forward to sharing our new projects with you soon.”

Interestingly enough, the statement is signed by members Ruth Radelet, Adam Miller, and Nat Walker, but is conspicuously missing multi-instrumentalist Johnny Jewel. It remains unclear whether Jewel participated in the discussions that led to the breakup, was unaware of the band’s decision to call it quits, or if he had left the band before the other members decided to break up.

A representative for Jewel released a statement via Stereogum which keeps his involvement in the decision vague: “Johnny is extremely proud of his work with the project over the years and he’ll continue making music and supporting great art and artists through his label Italians Do It Better.”

Chromatics was originally formed in 2001 and consisted solely of Miller. The main lineup of Miller, Walker, Jewel, and Radelet was in place by 2007’s Night Drive, although the band has cycled through a horde of official and touring members over the years. The band has six official albums, while their eternally-delayed seventh LP, Dear Tommy, was set to be released this year. It is unclear whether the release of that album will be affected by the band’s breakup.
