Court allows Britney Spears to hire her own lawyer

In the ongoing Britney Spears conservatorship case, the singer has received some much welcome news after the courts have granted her power to choose her own attorney.

Following this news, the court-appointed Samuel Ingham immediately stepped down and has been replaced by Mathew S. Rosengart, in a bid the ensure that her father is removed from her conservatorship.

In 2008, the singer’s management was placed in the hands of her legal guardians in an arrangement known as conservatorship after the singer’s mental health issues unfurled publicly.

Under U.S law, a conservatorship is defined as “the appointment of a guardian or a protector by a judge to manage the financial affairs and/or daily life of another person due to old age or physical or mental limitations”.

As part of this ruling, she hasn’t, until now, been able to appoint her own attorney, a civil liberty that is afforded to just about everybody who enters American court.

This development comes only days after court papers revealed that Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, allegedly used $2million of the conservatorship to finance his own legal defence.

What the newly appointed attorney can bring to the table as the court case develops remains to be seen, but more updates are expected in the coming weeks.
