Damon Albarn has spoken out in recent interviews about a possible Blur reunion in the backburner, as well as new carnival-themed Gorillaz material.
Speaking to NME, the Britpop icon revealed regarding a potential Blur reunion, “When it’s wanted, I’ll do it. I don’t want to foist that stuff on anybody unnecessarily.”
This comes after former Blur drummer Dave Rowntree declared that he’d be interested in the idea, which Albarn commented on by adding, “Well, we did have a chat recently, but we haven’t really progressed further than that,” Albarn replied. “We did have an idea though; I’ve just been a bit busy at the moment obviously. When it happens, I’ll be made up.”
For now, however, fans of his work have a forthcoming dose of Gorillaz music to look forward to. He describes the style of the new tracks as “going back to the spirit of the first record.”
Adding, “It’s really exciting and we’ve been really enjoying it. It’s a nice kind of counter-balance to ‘The Nearer The Fountain…’, really. I’ve definitely needed a dose of something else after I finished that record. Steel pan drums and Casio MT-40s were always going to be a good cure.”
The record is set for release on November 12th with tour dates arranged for early 2022 and a headline set at the O2 arranged for August 11th, making it a very busy year ahead for Albarn.
