Dave Mustaine confirms David Ellefson will not appear on upcoming Megadeth album

Megadeth’s frontman and founder, Dave Mustaine, has confirmed that former bassists David Ellefson – who was recently relieved of his duties with the band following an unfurling masturbation scandal – will not appear on the band’s forthcoming record.

Ellefson was fired from the band last month after online grooming allegations surfaced. Initially, the band stood by the bassist awaiting further evidence as Ellefson first cited that there was nothing untoward about his actions and that he had been manipulated.

Thereafter further details came to light and Mustaine and band management made the call decision to part company. “We are informing our fans that David Ellefson is no longer playing with Megadeth and that we are officially parting ways with him,” a statement from bandleader Dave Mustaine read. “We do not take this decision lightly.”

It then continues to say: “While we do not know every detail of what occurred, with an already strained relationship, what has already been revealed now is enough to make working together impossible moving forward. We look forward to seeing our fans on the road this summer, and we cannot wait to share our brand new music with the world. It is almost complete.”

Now, in an interview with Gimme Radio, Mustaine has confirmed that none of Ellefson’s recorded bass tracks will feature on the record. “I just wanna thank you for all the kind words and support as we get ready for this next tour and continue to hunt for a new bass player,” Mustaine addressed fans on the show. “We are making progress.

“The record’s being completed, and we’re going to have someone coming in in a couple of weeks to replace the bass tracks that we had. Which should be relatively quick because the person we’re talking to is a stellar bass player. And hopefully, this will be an ongoing thing after the recording. Or we will find someone prior to the recording that will be our permanent guy going forward.”

Following his departure from the band, the police reported that Ellefson admitted to “four or five masturbation encounters” with a young woman online.

No release date has yet been announced for the album but it is expected once basslines have been added, and with all other parts seemingly recorded, it shouldn’t be too far off.
