Don Everly of The Everly Brothers has died

Don Everly of the rock ‘n’ roll duo The Everly Brothers has died at the age of 84.

A family spokesman informed the Los Angeles Times of his sad passing. However, no cause of death has yet been stated.

The statement provided read: “Don lived by what he felt in his heart. Don expressed his appreciation for the ability to live his dreams… with his soulmate and wife, Adela, and sharing the music that made him an Everly Brother.”

The duo are considered a pioneering force of rock ‘n’ roll harmonies as they had a huge influence over The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel and many other groups who followed in their wake.

Over the course of their career, the pair endured dizzy highs and the unfortunate low point of an on-stage break-up during a disastrous show in 1973.

However, during the zenith of their influence between 1957 and 1962, they had 15 US top ten singles; including ‘Cathy’s Clown’ and ‘Bye Bye Love’ that proved instrumental in introducing country stylings to rock ‘n’ roll that would change the genre and lead many to cite them as the most important duo in rock history.

Don was the last surviving member of the duo, after Phil died of pulmonary disease in 2014, at the age of 74.
