English songstress Jade Bird will be hitting the road for a brief UK tour in March of 2022.
The tour will cover English cities with a brief stopover in Glasgow. Most of the venues will be O2 affiliates, with the sole exceptions being the Cardiff, Manchester, Newcastle, and Glasgow dates. The tour will kick off at the O2 Forum in London and end at the end of the month with a stop at the O2 Academy in Leeds.
Jade Bird, the young folk singer from Northumberland, is set to release her second LP Different Kinds of Light in August. I’m sure the original intention was to tour behind it, but lingering restrictions from COVID 19 likely put a damper on those plans.
Instead, we’ll have to wait until next year to see Bird play new and old songs. 2019’s self-titled debut had some wonderfully sparse acoustic tunes that highlighted not only Bird’s ear for melody but also put the focus on her poetic lyrics. Bird’s music is at its best when it’s stripped down and simplified, with no smoke or mirrors to hide her singular writing style.
Previous road jaunts came in the wake of Jade Bird, including stints opening for fellow indie folk icons like Hozier and The Lumineers. Nearly a year after the release of her first album, Bird’s triumphant run came to a screeching halt as the global coronavirus pandemic put a swift end to any and all future plans for either touring or recording.
Word has it that Different Kinds of Light has been done and ready to go for over a year now. Whether that’s the truth or not, it look like we’ll have to wait another year before we’ll get to hear the long-gestitating music live.
