La Luz share new video for single ‘The Pines’

American indie band La Luz have released the latest taste of their upcoming self-titled album with ‘The Pines’.

If you don’t know La Luz by now, you need to get on board. The band has three fantastic albums, and La Luz is likely to be the fourth, continuing the trend for killer guitar riffs and catchy melodies that the band have all but perfected by this point.

From the desert scorched surf rock of 2013’s It’s Alive all the way to their last single, the loopy and goofy ‘Watching Cartoons’, the band know how to catch your ear and keep your attention. ‘The Pines’, I’m happy to say, is no exception.

The group’s signature spaced-out sound, combining heavily reverberated guitars with thumping bass and pounding drums, remains intact on ‘The Pines’, a driving tale of longing for escape from the tedium and lack of understanding from the older generation. “So your daddy thinks we’re lazy, he’s preoccupied/By the voices on the radio that tell him lies,” is a pointedly political line from the ladies in La Luz.

La Luz has turned to producer Adrian Younge for their latest LP, whose extensive resume includes work with Jay-Z, Wu-Tang Clan, Schoolboy Q, and Kendrick Lamar. With his work mainly consisting of hip hop and soul, it might seem like an unlikely partnership on paper, but Younge says that the connection formed between the producer and the band was immediate.

“We both create music with the same attitude, and that’s what I love about them,” he says. “They are never afraid to be risky and their style is captivating. I don’t work with many bands, but I love taking chances on people that share the same vision. We both love to be ourselves, and it was an honour to work with them.”

Check out the video for ‘The Pines’ down below. La Luz is set for an October 22 release.
