Liz Lawrence shares new video for ‘Down For Fun’

British indie singer Liz Lawrence has shared a new video for her single ‘Down For Fun’.

Even while singing the lines “Down for fun/Down for anything,” Lawrence intones the lyrics with a muted monotone that eventually jumps into a smooth croon without ever truly embracing a full-throated howl that we might usually expect from a song about going wild and embracing life. She might be saying she’s down for fun, but her voice is detached and droll. Maybe it’s an ironic choice, but it definitely threw me off the first time I heard it.

“All the subcultures and countercultures I was around were very male-dominated, and this is about feeling like there are other options,” Lawrence says in a statement. “It’s the words I needed to hear.”

‘Down for Fun’ is the most recent preview of Lawrence’s upcoming third studio album The Avalanche. The amount of time between her debut LP Bedroom Hero and its follow up Pity Party was roughly seven years, so the fact that we’re getting new material from Lawrence relatively soon after her previous release is a pleasant surprise.
