Mick Fleetwood wants Lindsey Buckingham back in ‘Mac’

Mick Fleetwood, the ‘Daddy’ of Fleetwood Mac, is ready to welcome the prodigal son, Lindsey Buckingham, back into the band following their reconciliation last year.

However, with Buckingham set to embark on a solo tour to promote his new album later this year, it is unlikely he will jump back into the always choppy waters of the Mac anytime soon.

Speaking to Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt on their Rockonteurs podcast, Mick Fleetwood revealed: “The thought of walking on stage, and Lindsey being part of that, would be very healing.”

The drummer very openly discussed his desire to put the past behind them and held hope that the two could “make music” together again. “I would hope to be the instigator of making all that happen,” he said, “Before we knock it all on the head.”

During the 2018-19 tour, Buckingham was fired from the band after relationships became frayed for what seems like the thousandth time. He was replaced by Neil Finn from Crowded House and Mike Campbell from Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers band, two very handy numbers to be able to call upon.

Mick Fleetwood, however, was quick to add that a Buckingham return would not mean the end for them. “That’s not saying goodbye to Mike or Neil,” said Fleetwood. “We don’t behave like that, but something connective.”

Only two weeks ago, Buckingham, now 71-years-old, took to Twitter to announce, “My new self-titled album is one I’ve been intending to get out for a couple of years now, but on more than one occasion, unforeseen circumstances necessitated a postponement of plans.”
