A new documentary has been announced focussing on the legendary producer Sir George Martin’s famed Montserrat recording studio.
The documentary entitled Under The Volcano will focus on his AIR Studio on the tropical island of Monserrat in the Caribbean where the likes of Paul McCartney, Elton John and Rolling Stones ventured to record.
This tiny island studio primed itself to be the centre of a documentary not just because of its unusual locale, but because it also formed the backdrop to the break-up of The Police, Paul McCartney’s first album since the death of former Beatles bandmate John Lennon and the comeback of the Rolling Stones.
Director Gracie Otto known for her work on The Last Impresario will detail all of this and more in a fresh new look at Martin’s career and time on the island.
Sadly the Caribbean haven where many great records were made was destroyed in 1989 when Hurricane Hugo struck the island and it was never rebuilt.
The documentary will be released digitally and on Blu-Ray and DVD on July 26th. You can catch the trailer for the star-studded doc below.
