New reports allege Aaliyah was drugged before fatal plane crash

20 years on from the plane crash that took the life of Aaliyah, reports have surfaced that suggest that the singer was drugged and carried onto the plane prior to take off.

It was back in August 2001 when her flight from the Bahamas to the US crashed after failing to take off effectively, killing the singer and eight members of her entourage only 200 feet from the runway.

Now, a witness called Kingsley Russell, who was working as a baggage handler despite only being 13 at the time, claims that when Aaliyah first saw the light aircraft, she refused to board it.

He claims the singer was handed a sleeping pill to help with the headache she was dealing with, before returning to her cab and awaiting details on alternative travel arrangements.

Thereafter, once Aaliyah had fallen asleep owing to the sleeping pills, the claims suggest she was carried from the cab onto the plane by her crew despite her past reservations about the plane.

The air crash investigation would ultimately find that the small twin-engine Cessna was severely overweight, which ultimately led to its inability to gain altitude.

Russell’s statement in the new book Baby Girl: Better Known as Aaliyah by Kathy Iandoli concludes: “They took her out of the van; she didn’t even know she was getting boarded on a plane. She went on the aeroplane asleep.”
