The Lathums have unveiled their brand new shimmering single, ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be’, and it’s their most uplifting effort yet.

Wigan’s new favourite sons have become one of the most-talked-about new bands in the country over the last twelve months, and it looks as though the sky is the ceiling if they carry on this current trajectory. While selling out shows at iconic venues like Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse, Glasgow’s Barrowlands and more, the band are still yet to announce their debut album.

While we wait to hear when they will be delivering their highly anticipated debut LP, The Lathums are building excitement with the release of their new track, ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be’. The new number sees frontman Alex Moore channel his inner-Paul Heaton and has a timeless edge to it.

The track is the type of song that Moore would never have dared to write a couple of years ago, but he’s now in the happiest place he’s ever been, and this shows in The Lathums’ latest single.

Speaking to Far Out about the new single, Moore said: “I think I am getting happier, to be honest. Not that I seek gratitude or anything, but just the fact that people want to listen to my music and care about my lyrics, me and the lads. It’s been life-changing but in ways that I didn’t think would change.”

This newfound optimism has given Moore a lust for life, one that shines through on the new single. He wrote ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be’ at the height of the pandemic as he managed to find a ray of light within an ocean of darkness. “It was midway through it,” Moore explains about how the song came about. “I was kind of coming to terms with how bad this could actually be, but there was still a little light at the end of the tunnel, and it was a bit of a limbo situation.”

Moore added: “I was just with my Mum just talking about stuff, and the words just kind of came out through the conversation, then I got a little melody for it. I just realised that things aren’t always as bad as they might seem, even though they seem terrible at the time. We always get through things, and life can actually be really beautiful.”

Keep an eye out on Far Out for our full feature with Alex, which is arriving in the not-so-distant future, but for now, here’s a reminder of ‘How Beautiful Life Can Be’.
