Yungblud has unleashed a rendition of David Bowie’s classic song ‘Heroes’ at Team BG’s homecoming event over the weekend. The celebration, held in London’s SSE Arena Wembley, was in tribute to Britain’s Olympians, many of whom received gold in this year’s postponed Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Following some death-defying dancing by performers standing on the frame of a giant cube, Yungblud walked on stage in a bedazzling Union Jack Blazer and began the cover. He was backed by a string section, giving the performance a fittingly orchestral feel.
The event also featured performances by the likes of Bastille, Rag n’ Bone Man, Anne Marie, and Laura Mvula. Between sets, footage of Team GB’s achievements at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics was shown on a huge display screen. The team were placed fourth overall, collecting 22 gold medals, 21 silver and 22 bronze. They matched the medal haul from the London 2012 Olympic Games but were two below their total at the 2016 Rio De Janeiro games.
Elsewhere, Yungblud performed his new track ‘Obey’ for the first time last week. The song features Oli Sykes of Bring Me The Horizon and features on the band’s 2020 EP Post Human: Survival Horror. Bring Me The Horizon joined Yungblud for the song’s live debut at the 02 Arena.
Yungblud also embarked on his ‘Occupy The UK’ tour earlier this month, kicking off at Nottingham’s Rock City venue. The singer will begin another tour known as the ‘Life On Mars Tour’ later in the year, with the first show taking place in Brighton.
Of the tour, Yungblud has said: “These shows are going to be double the energy, double the emotion, double the passion,” adding, “These are the biggest rooms I’ve ever played so be expecting a spectacle. I’ve have had a year trapped in a room and my ADHD needs to have some gasoline put on it and set me on fire… let’s get it!”
